Lauren's Barbarian by Ruby Dixon6/28/2023 ![]() ![]() You do not need to read the other series (or be caught up) in order to read LAUREN'S BARBARIAN. ![]() This romance features all of the adventure, humor and community you’ve come to expect in the Ice Planet Barbarians series, but it stands on its own. Book cover for Laurens Barbarian by Ruby Dixon. To survive this, I'll need my tempting guy to give me a hand with the situation…good thing he's got four of them. Lauren is stranded on a tropical island, which is an unpleasant surprise. But it isn’t long before I learn that the tropical island paradise is a death trap and we’re all in grave danger, aliens and humans alike. Add in the fact that my cootie – a symbiont I need to survive – has chosen my big, hulking alien friend as my fated mate? Let’s just say that the situation isn’t the only thing that’s going to be handled. ![]() Stranded alone with a brutal but delicious alien man that can’t speak English but has great…ahem…body language? Yup, handled. Separated from the others in my group? Handled. So… washed up on a tropical island? Got it handled. ![]() Since that moment, I’ve learned that nothing is normal anymore and I’ve got to roll with the punches. Then again, not much makes sense anymore after waking up and finding myself not in bed but on a strange world populated by aliens. A lush, tropical island on an icy planet makes no sense. ![]()

Moonshine kat bostick read online6/28/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() One or two months in, I suddenly understood the appeal of buying sixteen cases of canned vegetables. ![]() Why bother stocking up on groceries that won’t keep? At first, I thought the people stockpiling had to be out of their minds. At first there was only a little pilling a handful of looters who thought they could get away with stealing-they usually could-and soccer moms fighting over the last package of toilet paper at big box stores. It was like someone took the seams of the entire nation and started tugging. Government officials disappeared and with them, government aid. Six months after the blackout, they went dark too. I mean, when I was little and my mother was primary president of our (then) branch, she used to have a bulletin board where we would pin drawings of Jesus that we coloured ourselves. I was surprised, too! I mean, really, it was about time! Ever since the secret and not-as-secret Handbook one and two merged into one and went public, we were finally able to know what to do for everything! Do you remember that one General Conference? That one when we all raised our hands and sustained the Handbook as holding more authority than scripture, or common sense, or the spirit? ![]() ![]()
All the pretty horses cormac6/28/2023 ![]() It was also the first of four McCarthy novels adapted to film (that is, if you count James Franco’s film version of Child of God, which I’m not inclined to do, but technically I think I have to). All the Pretty Horses (1992) won an armful of awards itself and wound up a genuine bestseller. But with The Road (which won the Pulitzer Prize, prompted Nobel whispers, and landed him on Oprah) he now had two. McCarthy was not exactly a writer from whom one expected a breakout hit the prose in his early novels, especially Blood Meridian, could be described as the Old Testament by way of James Joyce. ![]() ![]() He was getting on in years (he’s currently 89), and he’d hit such a professional peak with his previous book, The Road (2006), that it was hard to avoid the sinking feeling that, as great as his fiction tended to be, we might have seen the last of it.Īnd maybe The Road was to blame. For many years, fans and admirers of the writer Cormac McCarthy wondered if he would ever publish another novel. ![]() Namesake, Volume 1 by Isabelle Melançon6/28/2023 ![]() ![]() But things aren't as peaceful as they were when L. Yes, Emma has arrived in Oz, seemingly being the Dorothy expected to come and assist the land. Emma is transported to a land with a road of yellow brick and tiny little people. We meet Emma Crewe, a young woman who's going to pick her sister Elaine up at the library, when she meets a mysterious librarian who is murdered shortly after by a woman who seems to have magic powers. The story tells of Namesakes, people who travel to other words by virtue of their given name. It's picked up quite a fan following, so much that the Kickstarter campaign came only a little over $300 shy of doubling its $7000 goal in one month. Namesake is a webcomic that updates one page at a time three times a week at. ![]() And considering they're now selling the book in print for $20 and the e-book for $5, I'm quite satisfied that I got my money's worth. I got a copy in print and in e-book format because I took part in their Kickstarter fundraiser to get the book printed in a format that wouldn't be too pricey for a customer. And I finally got my copy of Namesake: Book 1 by Isabelle Melancon and Megan Lavey-Heaton. ![]() The gift of the magi full story6/28/2023 ![]() ![]() There he worked on a cattle ranch owned by friends of his family.
